Justice in Love

Admittedly, I “huh?“-ed when I pulled the Justice card as a part of my self-love tarot spread last week. My question was:

“What is the one kind thing I can do as an act of love for myself?”

Alas, I let them take the lead and braced myself to explore together.

The Justice in the Fifth Spirit Tarot deck is drawn as a bad ass person. I love everything about them from the expression, attitude, the down to the outfit. Did they appear to remind me of my own bad-ass-ness? To bring it out more often as an act of self-love?

I also noticed that on the scale, unlike on other Justice tarot cards I have seen ━ including the classic Rider Waite Smith, the heart weighed more than the feather. (I can’t wait for the guidebook to arrive to read the artist, Maria’s, reasoning behind this).

Justice Fifth Spirit Tarot

Are they trying to convey that heart matters more than the mind? Is it asking me to listen more to my heart instead of my mind when it comes to self-love? Or is it reminding me to balance it out since I tend to operate the other way around?

Wille of A Little Spark of Joy tarot blog said this about the Justice card in relation to love:

(it) represents decision and choices. Do you know your worth? settling for far less than you deserve, whether single or committed, is never an option.

Well said!

Back to the card I pulled, my attention kept going to the tattoos covering their upper body. Maybe my self-love act can be of getting the evil-eye tattoo on the same part of my body. And that my friends, is what I call wishful thinking.

Lockdown Diary: Day 3

When I sat down for the Monday Morning meeting, the first thing discussed was the high probability of lockdown getting extended. Not a great way to start the week, eh?

I tried to push the speculative news aside, along with the thought that I most probably won’t see my parents nor go on Kumano Kodo pilgrimage this year.

Instead, I spent the day working, reading a few pages from the boring CPA textbook, running, practising yoga for runners, texting friends and gentle journaling.

Some highlights of the day include bed coffee, payday (I pulled the King of Pentacles), cozying up on the sofa with Fafa and watching The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel on Netflix, the smell of the burning candle ━ a gift from Jik, getting a package and Wood Frog’s pumpkin seed sliced bread.

Lockdown Diary: Day 1

Today is the first day of Melbourne third lockdown.

There ━ a sentence I was praying never to write. The authority announced it yesterday afternoon; said it’s going to be only for five days and calling it a circuit break. As if making it sound mechanical could help to ease the despair.

I wanted to share my experience here, diary-style, as I regret not doing it consistently during the last previous lockdowns. Also, I figured surely I can commit for five days.

Today, on the day one, I woke up, turned off the alarm, recounted my blessings, drank my bed-coffee and shuffle my tarot cards.

First, I drew the card for the day, Queen of Pentacles and Judgement flew out. Then, I did a lockdown tarot spread. By the time I finished journaling Fafa had come back from the market (shopping for essential is still allowed) with an almond croissant. What a treat!

I stayed on the bed until past noon, which seemed the least I could do for myself in the name of self-care after the work week I had combined with the lockdown announcement and having had to cancel both the Airbnb and dinner-date to celebrate Valentine this weekend.

After that, I did healing yoga, showered and went to the market myself. I wanted to get myself some flowers and the over-priced hipster juice from there, which I deemed as my happiness potion. Unfortunately, the roses were also over-priced and the hipster food store was closed. Instead, I came back with stuffed capsicum and quinoa salad for lunch, red velvet Vals cupcake and iced coffee for Fafa.

I read for a while but then thought I’d give my weary brain some rest and joined Fafa to half-watch Your Honor while browsing Affirmations decks on Etsy.

For dinner, we ordered fancy-ish take-away to recreate the date night that we had to cancel. We got Szechuan style king prawns and spicy fried rice from Dainty Szechuan and when we realised we forgot dessert, tiramisu from Thirty Eight Chairs.

I also watched The Descent (2005), it was really good; and The Neighbour (2017), which was extremely boring.

Right before bed, I called my parents and got an earful to be extra cautious as if being put on lockdown is not enough. And with that, I shall retire this first day take three.

New Moon in Capricorn Tarot Spread

As you might have known, one of my tarot goals is to do a tarot spread for each new and full Moon throughout this year. So here is the first one, in conjunction with the first New Moon, in 2021.

The tarot spread is inspired by Shinjini’s New Moon in Capricorn tarot spread. I am using a freshly smoked-cleansed Stef, the Moon Void Tarot deck which seems to be a perfect fit for Moon-related tarot spread.

1. Significator for my career goal this year:

Eight of Pentacles

Can it be any clearer? Eight of Pentacles is about mastery and hard-work. To reach my career goal for this year, I ought to apply both attributes into my work-life.

Our efforts compound, even when we can’t see the growth.

2. Mindset that’s holding me back:

The Hermit

Err.. I struggled to grasp this one immediately. As a Virgo, being a hermit is like a normal state for me. But Hermit can also be a feeling of being disconnected and alone. This, connected with the action plans, below reminds me that I am not alone and that I have the support that I need to reach this goal.

3. Mindset that I need to adapt instead:

Seven of Wands

I am not at all surprise that Seven of Wands made an appearance. Seven of Wands is the overall energy I want to manifest into my life this year and that includes in the career aspect of it. I need to stand my ground, take up my well-deserved space, show myself and make sure that I am seen.

4. Action plans to reach my career goal:

Page of Pentacles

Crystal! Above anything else, Page of Pentacles for me represent learning. Continues learning and improving my skills at work will bring me closer to the goal.

5. Message from the Moon:

Judgement

It’s reminding me to put the hard-work now without worrying too much if I don’t see the expected result immediately/soon – which is something I am currently struggling with. That I ought to trust the process and the day will come when I will get to reap what I sow.

Also, a message in the book regarding Judgement:

Change is necessary in order to grow and evolve.

Well, that’s about it for me. I need to go back to do some more work tonight to reduce the piling new work-tasks. With that, Happy New Moon in Capricorn everyone! May it sprinkles us with the hard-working Capricorn energy to get a head start to reach the goals we set for ourselves this year.

The Emperor Moon Void Tarot Deck Black and White Crystal
Tarot

Stalked By The Emperor

The Emperor is stalking me. He has appeared for three consecutive days on my daily tarot card reading. Four, if I include the Meletos staycation tarot spread. What’s weirder is that this isn’t the first time this card has stalked me. The last time it happened, I chalked it as a message to call Appa. He did stop appearing after that.

But this time, I don’t think it has anything to do with a masculine representation in my life. For once, The Emperor card in the Moon Void Tarot deck – the one I have been using ever since I got it early this month – doesn’t have the Emperor on it; the card only shows his crown, sceptre and robe placed on his throne. Seems like he is busy doing stuff instead of just sitting on his ass. Which, if I am honest, is a nice alternative to the classic depiction of the card in Rider Waite Smith tarot deck. On the Rider Waite Smith, the Emperor is just sitting there, drapped in a red robe, looking rather stern.

His rigidness on the Rider Waite Smith deck aside, I am indifferent towards The Emperor in tarot. It’s not one of my deck deciding tarot cards. And come to think of it; I have never seen The Emperor card that I like to from any deck I own.

The traditional meaning of the card The Emperor is about structure, authority, ability and so on. Meanwhile, Stef, the creator of the Moon Void Tarot deck, said this about the him:

Emperor (Aries) energy appears when we are asked to stand up and stand out, to take up more space as well as holding space for others.

Foundation, respect, standing the ground, space… I still am unsure what message the Emperor is trying to convey me. Maybe I ought to spend some more time with it. It could just be the first tarot card that I meditate on.

New Moon in Sagittarius Tarot Spread

I am using the New Moon in Sagittarius spread created by Sarah of The Curious Cardslinger.

1.Where would I most benefit from a change of perspective?

Judgement

Well, this was not a surprise; I am, after all a judge-y Virgo. Being judgmental and self-critical are my jam. And lately, my self-talk tends to be damaging. Maybe it’s because of work pressure or just an accumulation of 2020 fatigues; the bottom line is I haven’t been nice to myself lately. So yes, changing the perspective on how I see myself and slowly working on self-acceptance would definitely benefit me during this new moon.

2.How can I see this area of my life more clearly?

Wheel of Fortune

Each moment is temporary, focus on the things you can control. And we can’t control everything. How do we move through change and meet our discomforts with understanding and joy?

The Wheel of Fortune is inviting me to remember when this current life that I complain a lot about was the life I wished to have. And now that I have it, I should be grateful for it. It also reminds me that things will get better, the things that I struggle with at the moment will be the things I will achieve in the future.

3. What lesson do I need to learn right now?

Four of Cups

The book’s interpretation of the card:

Complacency and boredom, a warning to come back to the present.

But I see it as being tired, needing a break. A clear sign to amp up my self care practice. Also, the cocktail glass sign at the back beckoned me to have a drink right after I finish writing this. Oh well, if the card said so, I shall follow the advice.

4.What opportunities can this open up for me?

The Magician

Manifestation! Creating my reality my way. Of course! I have been counting my workdays for the year. I can’t wait to take a break, recharge and start planning and manifesting my 2021.

5. How can I invite more fun into my life?

Five of Cups

Though I used the Moon Void Tarot deck when I did the spread, the Five of Cups in the Everyday Witch Tarot deck came into my mind as soon as I saw it. I think I have indulged in collective Covid negativity too long and too much that I stopped being grateful. Which to be fair, is admittedly a more challenging activity to cultivate amid feeling burned out. But I guess that is why now it is more critical than ever start using it as my daily tool again.

Meanwhile, interpreting purely from image of The Five of Cups on the Moon Void Tarot deck alone, I got the idea that having more fun for me might involve some kind of hobby — be it cooking (kitchen counter), painting (spilled ink) or photography (framed night sky).

6. Where should my attention be focused at this time?

Seven of Swords

The Seven of Swords can be interpreted as leaving a situation or even fleeing from a problem that I am not happy about. I think this card got to do more with work and yes, I can’t wait for my Christmas break next week.

I find it interesting that both the Four and Five of Cups showed up. Also that I pulled three major arcana cards and lastly, there was no Wands nor Pentacles suit.
